Radioactivity Levels in Some Sediments and Water Samples from Qarun Lake by Low–Level Gamma Spectrometry
نویسنده
چکیده
The specific activities of the natural radionuclides U, Ra, Th and K were measured in sediments and water samples collected from the Qarun lake (Middle Egypt) in order to gather information about radionuclides mobility and distribution. In the sediment and water in general, the concentration of U was found to be higher than that of the Th and the activities of Th, Ra and U in this lake falls within the worldwide ranges while K was observed in sediment samples, ranging from 410 to 1426 Bq kg be higher than the worldwide average. The results have been compared with other radioactivity measurements in different countries. Multivariate Statistical analyses were carried out between the parameters obtained from the radioactivity to know the existing relations and to study the spatial distribution of radionuclides.

Maharlu Lake, located in the SW of Iran, has acted as a sink for various wastewater discharges in the last few decades. This study aimed at assessing potentially toxic elements (PTEs) distribution in sediment, surface and pore water samples of Maharlu Lake. To achieve that, the samples were collected from each compartment and the total concentration of PTEs (Al, Fe, Sc, Cr, Co, Ni, Zn, As, Sb, ...

Background: Some Particular areas contain natural radionuclide at levels much higher than those usually present in earth's crust. The radiological impact of the use of zirconium ore in zirconium industry is due to internal exposure of the lung by alpha particles and external exposure of the body by the gamma rays. The result of gamma spectrometry measurement of the concentrations of th...

Introduction: Human has always been exposed to background ionizing radiation. Interaction between ionizing radiation and the biological system can lead to changes in cells or tissues inducing diseases, such as cancer. With this background in mind, this experimental study aimed to evaluate the specific activity of water radionuclides in Kermanshah province, western region of Iran. Material and M...
